THIS IS UNITED WAY OF ALLEGANY COUNTY...

“Debra” first made contact with Family Crisis Resource Center after a police officer conducted a lethality assessment and Debra screened in as “high danger”. The officer made a call to the Family Crisis Resource Center hotline where Debra was given the option of speaking to a counselor. The hotline staff completed a safety plan with Debra and approved her and her children for shelter. Debra worked incredibly hard during her stay in shelter and was able to find a place for her 3 children and herself within 6 weeks. Debra is thriving in her new place and continues to utilize counseling services for herself as well as her three children – working through the aftermath of the violence they experienced.

The Emergency Prescription Program assists residents of Allegany County with emergency and short-term prescription coverage. Mr. A. was an individual who did not have health insurance and went through life everyday without his medication because, like so many others, he could not afford it. He went to Associated Charities to find out if there were any resources available for a person in his situation. He walked away with more than he expected! Not only did he get the medication he needed short term but after sitting down and discussing his situation we realized other programs he was eligible for as well. Associated Charities helped Mr. A. fill all the necessary paperwork out for the Primary Adult Care Program and followed through with him to make sure he was accepted into the program. “The staff of Associated Charities was very understanding and helpful.” Said Mr. A. “They told e about a program that I didn’t even know I was eligible for and now I get the help I need with my medications without the worry of how I will pay for them. “ Simply put, Associated Charities exists because many people, in all walks of life, of all ages, and in a variety of economic situations, can’t afford to buy prescription medications.
